“Life is about courage and going into the unknown”
We are kicking off this blog with a quote:
“Life is about courage and going into the unknown” - The Secret Lift of Walter Mitty
It’s quote from one of my favorite movies about a man who daydreams of living the adventurous life he never got the chance to experience. In this movie, Walter Mitty (played by Ben Stiller) has lived a life that’s left him unfulfilled. A life that his fear of exploration has curated for him.
This was me just a few years ago. I had dreams since I was young of being a trusted voice for health and wellness advice to anyone who needed it. You see, my dream was to help others understand and support their physiology, but I didn’t feel just speaking about it because I was still learning. This is a saturated space and I didn’t feel my voice would matter in a crowd of millions of people with higher education, more confidence, better bodies, or more aesthetic social media pages.
So, I never started, I kept learning.
I spent half a decade studying it full time, working with people, gaining experience wherever I could, and pushing myself to the extreme with training and nutrition to test my knowledge.
But then I realized something. Everyone is still learning.
The experts can rarely agree, the highlight reel of our favorite social media influencers portrays a misconstrued and often-bias version of wellness, the spread of misinformation runs rampant, and people are lost. There are always things to learn, someone that can educate you, someone who will disagree with you, or a new article to read.
So, why the hell not?
If I read textbooks for the rest of my life, I wouldn’t leave it fulfilled. I want to leave whatever knowledge behind that I can gather, to help others.
