High Protein Mint Chocolate Chip Ninja Creami

Mint Chocolate Chip Ice-cream can be a controversial ice-cream flavor. For some, the mint adds an extra chill to this already refreshing frozen dessert. For others, mint is something reminiscent of cleaning products and dental hygiene, having no place in ice-cream.

I personally love mint-chip Ice-cream, and after finding some mint-flavored chocolate chips at my local grocery store, I knew this was the recipe to make.

I am someone who loves ice-cream, and when in a caloric deficit for my bodybuilding goals, it’s something I refuse to give up. So, this was my hopeful at-home solution in lieu of other premade brands like Halo Top or Enlightened.

Not to mention this ice-cream has a similar macronutrient profile to a protein bar to help build muscle; or in my case, maintain it while losing bodyfat.

Chocolate Ice-Cream Base

Don’t like the mint-chocolate combination? You don’t have to! You can use this recipe to make a basic chocolate ice-cream that still packs a ton of protein. Just remove the mint-chocolate chips, or the mint-extract from the recipe and continue as normal.

Choosing Your Mint Additive

If your grocery store doesn’t carry mint-flavored chocolate chips, don’t worry. You can substitute this by using peppermint extract (don’t use spearmint extract unless that’s your preferred taste) and your chocolate chip of choice.

Alternatively, if you want to really drop the added sugar, reach for unsweetened chocolate chips or remove them all together, using the peppermint extract to still bring in the mint flavor.

Ingredients (per pint)

  1. 200g 1% milk

  2. 85g half n’ half (10% cream)

  3. 1 tbsp cocoa powder

  4. ½ scoop chocolate whey concentrate (15g)

  5. 1 tbsp sucralose or granulated sweetener of choice

  6. Optional: ½-1 tsp peppermint extract or 2 tbsp mint chocolate chips

Steps

  1. Combine in a shaker

    • Using a shaking cup or blender, combine all of the ingredients and mix well for 20s to avoid clumping. Avoid using a hand mixer for this recipe as the mixture will most likely clump.

  2. Separate into your Creami pints

    • Pour your mixture into one (or more if you multiplied the recipe) of your Ninja Creami pints.

  3. Freeze overnight

    • Freeze the pint in the freezer for at least 10 hours, preferably overnight.

  4. Transform into ice-cream

    • Place your pint into your Ninja creami and run on “ice-cream” setting for hard serve ice-cream. It may come out clumpy, don’t worry.

  5. Add your mix-ins

    • Add in your mint chocolate chips and run through the creami again on “+mix-ins".

  6. Still Clumpy?

    • Run your ninja creami through again on “re-spin” to create the creamy texture.
